Package Types

A Package Type classifies the physical form of packaging. Examples include Box, Bag, Bottle, Drum, Reel, Pallet, and Container.

Package Types are shared reference data. They give Packages consistent terminology for filtering, validation, Catalogs, stock feeds, and marketplace exports.

A Package Type is different from a Logistics Shape Profile. Package Type classifies the packaging material. A Logistics Shape Profile explains how a Category's Product facts become logistics values before or after packaging.

What a Package Type contains

  • a stable integration key;
  • a multilingual name;
  • a multilingual description;
  • active or inactive status.

What a Package Type does not contain

A Package Type is not a physical Package specification. It does not contain:

  • dimensions;
  • material;
  • empty-package weight;
  • maximum supported load;
  • Product quantity;
  • price or stock.

Those values belong to Package, Product Pack, or Commercial Offer respectively.

Administration

Application Administrators maintain Package Types because the same classification is reused by every Company.

Deactivate a Package Type when it should no longer be selected for new Packages. Existing Packages retain their relationship for history and integrations.

Relationship to Package

Every Package selects one Package Type. When that Package is later selected for a Product Pack, Actualog derives the Package Type automatically. Users do not select a second, potentially conflicting Package Type on the Product Pack.
